What it is
FINPACK is a credit management and financial analysis platform published by the University of Minnesota's Center for Farm Financial Management and licensed to lenders system-wide. Analysts enter balance sheets in detailed or summary form, tax information and accountant-prepared income statements, then build spreads and cash flow projections, annual or monthly. The lender product splits into an Agriculture module for operating loans and a Commercial module for CRE and C&I credits, with a combined licence available. Global cash flow analysis is a named feature, benchmarked against RMA industry data. On the agricultural side the differentiator is FINBIN, which the university calls the largest farm financial database in the world, and no commercial vendor can replicate it. The product also includes collateral analysis, customizable risk rating, credit decision scorecards, portfolio stress testing and loan presentation templates. The important limitation is at the front door: data entry is described as manual entry of statements and tax forms, and nothing on its pages claims AI or OCR extraction, which puts it a full generation behind the automated-spreading vendors on intake labour while remaining ahead of most of them on analysis depth for farm credit.
What it does
- Balance sheet, tax information and accountant-prepared income statement entry, detailed or summary
- Annual or monthly multi-year cash flow projections
- Global cash flow analysis benchmarked against RMA industry data
- FINBIN farm financial benchmarking, described as the largest such database in the world
- Collateral analysis, customizable risk rating, credit decision scorecards and portfolio stress testing
- Separate Agriculture and Commercial modules, or a combined licence
Strengths
- FINBIN benchmarking is genuinely unique. No commercial vendor has a farm financial database of that size to compare a borrower against
- Covers agricultural and commercial credit under one licence, including CRE and C&I spreading, rather than ag alone
- Publishes its pricing basis openly, at loan volume on a one-year renewable system-wide contract, which is more than eight of the other platforms here manage
- Global cash flow analysis with RMA benchmarking, plus monthly as well as annual projections
- Choice of web-based or installed deployment, with online training bundled into the licence
Considerations
- Data entry is manual entry of statements and tax forms. Nothing on its pages claims AI or OCR extraction, so it trails every automated-spreading vendor here on intake labour
- No named client institutions and no lender count published, so the install base cannot be gauged
- Commercial lender training is still listed as coming soon, which suggests the commercial side is less mature than the agricultural side
- University-published rather than a venture or private-equity-backed software company, which changes what to expect from roadmap pace and support hours
- Neither a headquarters nor a founding year is stated on any of its pages
Best when
Farm credit is a real part of the book and peer benchmarking against actual farm financials is worth manual entry.

FINPACK FAQ
Does FINPACK automate data entry?
No. Its pages describe manual entry of statements and tax forms, and no AI or OCR extraction is claimed anywhere. If intake labour is the problem you are solving, this is the wrong product; if benchmarking farm credits is the problem, nothing else comes close.
How is FINPACK priced?
The lender licence is quoted on loan volume under a one-year annually renewable system-wide contract, which the university states openly. Training carries a published figure, $450 for the two-day in-person Ag Credit Analysis workshop, and online training is included in the licence.
Is FINPACK only for agricultural lending?
No. A Commercial module covers CRE and C&I credits, and a combined licence exists. The agricultural side is the more mature of the two, and commercial lender training is still listed as coming soon.
